We want pedestrian and bicycle access to the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge!

Built in 1964, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge (VNB) was constructed without pedestrian or bicycle access, despite the public's desire for it. As a result, you can only cross the VNB under your own power twice a year - during the New York City Marathon and the TD Five Boro Bike Tour. Full access to the bridge would finally link Brooklyn and Staten Island by foot and by bike, and would benefit the health and economic viability of the neighboring communities.

Transportation Alternatives, Bike South Brooklyn, and the Harbor Ring are calling for the opening of pedestrian and bicycle pathways on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge through either the installation of a new pathway or the conversion of an existing lane of vehicular traffic to a bicycle and pedestrian lane. Together we can advocate for a completed Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge that everyone can use and enjoy!
