In Memory of Damian

On June 29, 2024, my younger brother, Damian, lost his life in a horrific traffic crash. Just ten days after celebrating his 22nd birthday, he was cycling along the shoulder of a county road in New Jersey. In a devastating moment, he was struck from behind by a reckless driver, a senseless act that took away a vibrant soul.

Damian was not only an avid cyclist but also a dedicated collegiate swimmer and a recent NYU graduate. Damian began cycling as a means to commute to class, practice, and around NYC but quickly fell in love with it. He was filled with dreams and aspirations, with his whole life ahead of him. The depth of our loss is immeasurable, and we are left grappling with the reality that his death was preventable—it was not an accident. His death could have been prevented if the driver had made better choices and if our leaders put in place proven solutions to save lives.

In the wake of this heartbreak, my family joined with Families for Safe Streets to prevent these senseless deaths. We hope you will support FSS and our efforts to advocate for safer streets and support families like ours who have endured this heartache.

Damian’s spirit and passion for life will forever remain in our hearts. We miss him deeply, and his legacy will never fade from those who had the privilege of knowing him. Keep on cycling, Damian. We love you so much.
